About Michigania
Michigania: Michigan stuff and where to get it
Michigan, U.S.A. - two huge peninsulas surrounded by four of the five largest fresh-water lakes in the world. Few geographic areas of the world have been so distinctively shaped by the hand of nature.

Michiganian - a person born, raised, residing or just with a piece of their heart in Michigan.

Michigania -- (1) Michigan stuff. Lore, legends, memorabilia, gifts, pictures, products and all of that. (2) The place where you find Michigan stuff.

The "Michigan Store"

Welcome to Michigania

Since our beginning in 1988, we've become known as "The Michigan Store" - and we wear that label with a great deal of pride. We've grown from a few Michigan products to hundreds from all across the state.

They're made on kitchen tables, in basements, garages, studios, wineries, breweries, small craft shops - and all the way up to some fairly major producers. But even those, such as American Spoon Foods, had a humble Michigan beginning.

Where do we find them all? Some walk in the front door and ask to be run through our in-house staff jury system. Some we find in our three or four time a year forays out and around the state. Some we find at Michigan and national gift shows. And some are suggested to us by customers.

Some, because we just can't find producers in Michigan, come from elsewhere. We really wish we could find Michigan producers but, in order to offer the best selection of Michigania, we have a few products that are "about Michigan but not necessarily made in Michigan."

In short, we get stuff most every way, everywhere.

And, oh yes, we create quite a number ourselves.

What are our criteria for selecting Michigania products?

First, we want it to be actually created in Michigan. By "created," we mean that it's primarily retail value had been added in Michigan, even if the raw materials came from elsewhere. And, if it isn't created in Michigan, it must absolutely be about Michigan.

Second, we try to find products that say something about Michigan - which capture some of Michigan's particular flavor.

Third, quality, of course. We try to avoid what we call "trash and trinkets" and hobbyist craft items that just don't measure up to our standard of quality.

Fourth, we try to avoid products that have made it to the shelves of all the major retailers. If you can buy it there, it probably isn't all that special - and they can probably sell it to you cheaper.

Do some of our products break the rules? Of course. But as seldom as possible and only in our best effort to deliver Michigania to you!

So much to choose from

The variety of Michigania, we believe, is impressive. Products from all over the state; products of every nature. From Michigan's unique Petoskey stone, to hand-blown glass, to foods, pottery, woodware, books, apparel - and the list goes on.

The most popular? Probably the dried cherries and the Michigan hot-pad mitt. The cherries are different - a tangy tartness that just isn't quite like any other fruit for munching or, especially, in ever so many recipes.

The hot-pad mitt fills a special niche. Just as people visually explain the shape of Michigan's lower peninsula with an open hand, the mitt does the same job with an additional utilitarian purpose.

Michigan gifts - the best!

Michigania has traveled the world. Michiganians give our gifts to their visitors and take along our gifts when they travel. They say "welcome" and "thank you" just perfectly.

They're special for family and friends, whether near or far.

Corporations, public officials and non-profit organizations often find Michigan gifts most appropriate for leaders, constituents or recognition of most any type. Michigania takes all the work out of gifting. Place an order and we do the rest.

In short, as we like to say, a gift of Michigania is the best gift - for any type of gifting.
